• Spilanthol: This is a key compound in Acmella oleracea responsible for its anesthetic properties and the characteristic tingling sensation it produces.
• What is Acmella oleracea used for? Akarkara [Acmella oleracea] is an important medicinal plant; it is used to treat toothaches, hepatitis, malaria, fever is also described as an anticancer plant.
• The plant’s flower is used in Ayurveda for toothache, to stimulate saliva flow, and as a masticatory for dryness of the mouth and throat.
• Akarkara Flowers are dried and kept as a whole, the flowers are delicate and it can be squezeed easily from hand to obtain multiple seeds each flower has around about 25-40 or even more potential seeds which can be germinated to plants.
• Right method of sowing akarkara flowers seeds is to water the soil and leave it for 5-10minutes, broadcast the hand crushed flowers over the soil. Do not put any soil over the seeds broadcasted. Water it lightly preferrably through spray jet only to maintain the moisture.
• Germination will takes place within 8-10 days from sowing. You transplant or shift the plants to bigger pots after 6 weeks. [Do not expose to open to sky for full sunshine or rains during the germination and initial stages of plants emerging].
• Once plant becomes 8 weeks old it starts flowering and it will last for 3-4months with abundunt flowers in each plant.
• Fully matured akarkara flowers can be harvested [matured flowers will be in tapered shape towards tip and the base of flowers will be wider and red coloured tip will be small]. Harvesting the fully matured flowers gives the maximum volume from each plants.
• Sowing Method: Step-1 Crush the whole flower seed by hand gently and ensure the seeds are separated [if already separated from whole flower seed it is ready to sow] Step-2 Keep the soil surface smooth in the grow bag / pot remove stones Step-3 Water the grow bag / pot sufficiently and wait for 10min until the water is drained totally from the surface Step-4 Take the spoon full of seeds and broadcast on the wet soil surface evenly to cover the soil top
